Brazil Suspends Social Media Platform X Over Compliance Dispute

Deep State and U.S. Government backed tyrant in Brazil does as he pleases. Musk warns that if Kamala wins, this happens in America as dictatorship chokes off all freedom here.

A Brazilian Supreme Court judge, Alexandre de Moraes, has ordered the “immediate and complete suspension” of the social media platform X, according to recent reports. The decision came after CEO Elon Musk failed to meet a court deadline to appoint a new legal representative in Brazil. The platform went dark earlier today, and access will remain blocked until X complies with court orders and settles fines amounting to $3 million.

Tensions rise as Brazil suspends X 🇧🇷

Judge Moraes has also stipulated that users found accessing X through virtual private networks (VPNs) will face additional fines of $8,874 per day. Furthermore, Google and Apple’s app stores have five days to block access to the X app to comply with the new restrictions.

The conflict between X and Brazilian authorities escalated in April when the court ordered the suspension of specific X accounts for spreading misinformation, violating Brazilian laws. Musk resisted these orders, citing free speech as a fundamental right. Tensions peaked last week when Musk closed X’s Brazilian office following warnings from Judge Moraes about potential arrests for non-compliance.

In a post on X, Musk criticized the decision, stating, “Free speech is the bedrock of democracy, and an unelected pseudo-judge in Brazil is destroying it for political purposes.” Musk has argued that Judge Moraes is attempting to suppress conservative voices, particularly supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro. X has also claimed that the judge’s orders require the platform to violate Brazilian law, which they refuse to do.

Judge Moraes, on the other hand, maintains that his actions are aimed at curbing disinformation, hate speech, and attacks on democracy, accusing Musk of obstructing efforts to clean up the internet in Brazil. He has described Musk as an “outlaw” and asserts that Musk’s refusal to act is an attempt to influence the democratic process by allowing the spread of false information.

In a move to enforce compliance and recover fines, Judge Moraes has frozen the funds of SpaceX’s Starlink satellite-internet service, another of Musk’s ventures. The order also bans Starlink from conducting any financial transactions in Brazil. Starlink has vowed to challenge the order, arguing it was issued without due process as required by the Brazilian constitution.

Are you kidding me? You actually gave Taylor Lorenz airtime? Taylor Lorenz?? The BBC has now totally lost the miniscule amount of credibility you had left.

The suspension of X in Brazil could have broader implications globally. Some experts believe that if X loses this battle, it could set a precedent for similar actions in other countries such as the European Union, the U.K., Australia, and Canada. However, if X prevails, it might demonstrate the limits of censorship efforts against American companies.

    Key Points:

    i. Brazil’s Supreme Court judge ordered the suspension of the social media platform X over compliance issues, leading to the platform’s shutdown in the country.

ii. Elon Musk’s refusal to appoint a new legal representative and comply with court orders resulted in the suspension and fines amounting to $3 million.

iii. The judge imposed additional fines for accessing X via VPNs and instructed Google and Apple to block the app.

iv. Judge Moraes and Musk have clashed over free speech and the judge’s efforts to combat misinformation and hate speech on the platform.

    v. The suspension could set a precedent for future actions against social media platforms in other countries.
