Democrat front group designed to get votes for Harris. No one is fooled by them. Here is how most media are reporting on it all.
Some of Taylor Swift’s fans are taking political action, rallying behind their chosen presidential candidate even without public support from the pop superstar herself. The grassroots group “Swifties for Kamala,” which has no formal ties to either Taylor Swift or Vice President Kamala Harris, has raised a significant amount for Harris, the Democratic nominee for president. As of Wednesday afternoon, the group collected $142,000, including $122,000 from a Zoom event held on Tuesday, according to Irene Kim, the organization’s co-founder and executive director.

This virtual gathering, which lasted about two hours, attracted around 34,000 participants. The event featured prominent guests such as singer-songwriter Carole King, Senators Elizabeth Warren, Kirsten Gillibrand, Ed Markey, and Representatives Chris Deluzio and Becca Balint.
Despite Swift’s previous endorsement of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in the 2020 election, she has not officially backed any candidate for the current election cycle. Nevertheless, many Swifties have been inspired to support Harris on their own. “We’ve seen the impact we can make as a community when we come together, so we don’t need to wait for an official endorsement,” said Kim, 29. “We know our values and we also understand Taylor’s values, which she has made clear.”
The group has amassed over 72,000 followers on X (formerly Twitter) and more than 48,000 followers on Instagram. During Tuesday’s event, co-founder Emerald Medrano, 22, showcased “Swifties for Kamala” merchandise, including a T-shirt with a friendship bracelet graphic reading, “In my voting era.”
Throughout the call, several speakers incorporated Swift’s lyrics into their messages, praising the Swifties for their engagement. Senator Elizabeth Warren highlighted the resilience of Swift’s fans, saying, “You’ve come together, hand in hand, with friendship bracelets on your wrist, overcoming whatever challenges life throws at you. That’s the spirit of the Kamala Harris campaign.”
The event also featured references to the phrase “single cat ladies,” a nod to comments made by Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance about “childless cat ladies” in government roles. Swift, known as a cat enthusiast, has openly embraced the “cat lady” label. Senator Gillibrand added, “As single cat ladies and as independent women who know every Taylor Swift lyric, we are essential to this campaign and this election.”

Carole King, whom Swift inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021, even performed an a cappella version of “Shake it Off” and encouraged Swifties to actively support Harris’ campaign by volunteering. “I’ve been an activist for years,” King said. “If you’re thinking about volunteering or are nervous about it, remember, there is nothing to lose and everything to gain.”
The inspiration for “Swifties for Kamala” came from Jotaka Eaddy, founder of Win With Black Women, who hosted a highly successful fundraiser for Harris. Following President Biden’s decision not to seek re-election, other groups, such as “White Dudes for Harris,” “Dead Heads for Harris,” “Cat Ladies for Kamala,” and “Hackers for Harris,” have organized similar fundraising efforts.
